But You Don't "Need" Those Freedoms

I had a conversation with a middle aged female friend of mine. I can't exactly explain why she's my friend, aside from I believe her to be a good person deep down in side. But she is a raving typical middle aged American female liberal and thusly has never really had to ponder or think about where she is and is NOT allowed in terms of other people's business.

It started with the smoking ban and no matter how much I tried to convey to her the concept of private property, private owners doing what they want on THEIR land, she still lacked the intellect to admit other people have the right to do what they want on their property.

After discussing abortion, smoking, gun ownership underage drinking, etc. etc., she still failed to grasp the "15 year old could understand it" concept of "live and let live."

No, she thought it her place (albeit unconsciously) it was her place to dictate to other people what they should and should not do.

Ultimately she said (and again, unconsciously no doubt), "but you don't need those freedoms."

It is ignorance and idiocy like that, that makes me no longer care about the difference between;

1. conscious evil, KNOWINGLY trying to get you to forfeit your freedoms to take advantage of you (ala Obama).

2. Unconscious evil (aka ignorance, Peggy Joseph, my friend), blindly going with emotion to unknowingly vote us into a state of tyranny.

So (to quote your lover President Zero)

LET ME BE CLEAR and link to something that may convey the concept of freedom to you ignoramuses out there. Freedom is the right of a person to make a decision for themslves. Good or bad, right or wrong, as long as it doesn't hurt anybody else, it's none of your god damned business. And if you can't get that concept down and respect that, you are simply tyrannical, conscious or not, and your "voting freedom" should be stripped, by force if necessary.

I guess what makes me so angry about this is how so many adults (and by "adults" I mean people who I view to be older than me and would have been adults when I was a kid) are still so damn stupid. As if age and experience has taught them nothing.

The majority of women vote for this stuff. It's terrible. It's rare to find a woman who understands personal rights but yet the typical leftist can manage to understand "my body my choice." I guess the difference between a libertarian and a leftist (the majority of women) is: Libertarian:I should be able to do whatever I want as long as I pay the consequences. Leftist :I should be able to whatever I want, you should pay for it, AND I can make you do whatever I want.

This is huge problem in society. Why do so many people get upset with over people`s behaviour? So long as the action does not harm other people, they should be free to do as they please.
Alcohol prohibition in the 1920s, and the current War On Drugs, are current examples of this social tendency. Religious people knocking on my door, is another example. Why do so many religious folks, want me to agree with their own personal point of view? Why do they care so much about what other people think?

Erosion of personal freedoms in the current nanny state, is a serious problem. The US federal government even regulates the water flow on household toilets. Light bulbs, smoking, the list goes on and on.

I was seventeen when I learned that not everyone grows up. There are people in their 50s and 60s who have the mindset of a teenager. We call them "Boomers."

Unfortunately it seems that some people grow up on their own terms, while other people only grow up when forced to by the harsh reality of life. If they never meet that harsh reality, they never grow up. Then they go vote.

Yep, I've met plenty of people 10 to 20 years older than me that are oblivious to the ideas you stated in your post.

Voting is only worthwhile when a majority of people understand the idea of private property and personal responsibility. Those left most people decades ago.

Regarding sth`s comments and private property. There is something everyone should realize about socialism/Marxism. Socialists believe in the abolition of private property. In fact, this is a core principle of socialism. Capitalism has of course, been based on the concept of private property. Marx realized private property had to be destroyed, to allow socialism to take place.
sth, I agree that most people seem to have no idea, regarding the benefits of private property. Without private property, there can be no economic growth in a society. Check out life in North Korea, for a living example of no private property.

On a depressing related note, you can also look at Indian Reservations. A sad fact I discovered when I posted "Of Indians and Irishmen."

These are all expected consequences of the 19th amendment...

Also, I'll presume she's a mom.

You may have noticed moms have this deeply engrained thing that comes from telling kids "no, and that's the end of it"

No tattoo's, no piercings, no smoking, no you may not date that boy, etc..."

Not all of which are justifiable of strict logical reasoning and philosophical basis.

A lot of that is nonetheless valid, if unconscious reaction, but the problem is it becomes a thought habit, and applied to stuff it ought not.

Depressing.

Yup, arguing with leftists is pretty much a lost cause. The most effective way to do it, it seems, is to adhere rigorously to the Socratic method, but that requires patience and discipline. You have to be prepared to resist instantly calling them on whatever horse dooky they speak, and instead lead them on a course of questions aimed at annoying them to death.

"And *she* ate from the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil".

I.e. the WOMEN started thinking they knew better - knew what was better - than/for everyone else.

The more things change...
